The Board Game Series

Sometime in 2016 I was kicking around some ideas for another work of GAART with an artist/printmaker at Open Studio, he had just opened up his own shop and so I offered to make a print of my next work of GAART, and we came up with the following images, from childhood board games. I created some images, then Daryl (the printer) perfected them, we added as a backdrop some of text from the GAAR and the exemption to the GAAR and presto…….instant GAART.   I believe that we printed a few hundred bilingual cards on each side as a trailer, and I passed them out at various events.

In the end, Daryl printed an edition of 30; 15 of each on a 30″ x 42″ sheet (since I wanted something large and loud). One went as an artist proof, leaving 14 of the Go-to-GAAR and 15 of the Get-Out-of GAAR and they are in various corporate collections or still unreleased.  The idea was to name each one after a GAAR case so I could remember the outcomes, but with reversals now happening at the Federal Court of Appeal that has become quite complex. But now that I have retired from corporate life, I will have the time to do this series justice.  In one set, I called one Yin and one Yang, but I forgot which.   Some of the names so far have included “Birchcliffhanger” and “Ox-gored Properties”.    I will try to update this with a complete list if I can find my record book.

The finished works (untitled and unreleased editions) look like this, somehow the colours got switched up in the final printing and the text is juxtaposed from the card:

BUY GO TO GAAR NOW WHILE THEY LAST

BUY GET OUT OF GAAR NOW WHILE THEY LAST
